Metal fans and those with a sense of music history will be relishing the opportunity to see the godfathers - some may say grandfathers given that they formed in 1975 and the lead singer Bruce Dickinson is 50 next year - of rock. There will be fans baying to hear these legends of metal playing seminal hits such as Run to the Hills, The Number of the Beast, Aces High and more contemporary hits such as The Wicker Man and Different World.
The prospect of enjoying Iron Maiden launching into a world tour that includes the band’s first ever concerts in Costa Rica and Colombia is tantalising. Cities in Mexico get the nod to host concerts since their calibre in this field is unquestioned and they will without a doubt sell out. Porto Alegre is known as Brazil’s city of rock and so there is no surprise in this choice of venue.
2008’s tour will revisit the band's history by focusing almost entirely on their tracks and artwork from the 1980’s in both choice of songs played and the stage set, which will be based around the legendary Egyptian Production of the 1984-85 ‘Powerslave Tour’.
Each show promises to be a spectacle given Iron Maiden’s continual drive to give their all in every performance and make sure that their fans return home satisfied. It will be interesting to see how fans in Costa Rica and Colombia react to their idols descending into their midst for the first time and most likely the only time. Iron Maiden are ageing and won’t be able to withstand the rigours of a tour of this size and magnitude for much longer.
